Here are a few results from observations made on some of the islands this season:
BIRD: First nest 29 Sept. Till 10 Jan. 121 nests. 18 nests hatched producing 2047 live hatchlings, 3 nests eaten by crabs, 3 nests washed away, ten moved.
COUSINE: 80 nests with 14527 eggs. The first 24 nests hatched with 2866 hatchlings.
A nice anecdote: A land tortoise meets a hawksbill turtle ready to lay her eggs, on the beach. The tortoise hissed and tried to charge the turtle, but the turtle carried on digging, and the tortoise backe of, and left the turtle in peace.
SILHOUETTE: 2 nests at La Passe, and 80 nests at Grande Barbe.
NORTH reports turtle nesting in full swing with several nests hatching late December. We are continuing to see both hawksbills and green turtles coming up to lay on a regular basis.
That 's all I know so far,
Gruesse,
